Nicola Menicacci – from Firenze to New York
I was born in Firenze, Italy, in 1969. I studied law, became an attorney, and soon realized it was not my cup of tea. Worked as an interpreter for 15 years and then it was time to change.
I first arrived in New York in November 1998. I was flying from San Francisco, with a technical stop in Atlanta. I landed at La Guardia airport. The plane began its landing right above the twin towers of the World Trade Center. The lights were so glowing it was like daytime. It was impossible not to fall in love with such beauty.
I visited about a dozen times in four years, then I had a 7-year hiatus. In 2009 I came back. This time I wasn’t alone. It was our honeymoon. Right before the plane took off, I told Rosa: “You’re either going to love or hate it. When it comes to New York, there’s nothing in between.”
She loved it!
A Married Couple, a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Birman Cat
It took us many years to get a Visa. Once we got it, we sold everything we had and left, like many other people many years before. We landed in New York on September 7, 2017.
Hope, our Bernese Mountain Dog, and Amy, our lab who sadly passed away on June 3, 2019, joined us on November 14th. Olly, our Birman cat, arrived on June 15, 2018.
New York – from Scratch!
We started from scratch. A very low credit score, nothing else but our enthusiasm.
Rosa had a part-time job. I wanted to become a tour guide.
What is New York in Yellow Shoes? Talking Life in New York
This blog is meant to be an account of my life in New York, as well as a place for those who love New York to know more about it. You can find more about it on my Facebook page, my Instagram account, and mostly my YouTube channel. Whenever I work, I always wear yellow shoes, rain or shine.
I am Nicola Menicacci. And this is New York in Yellow Shoes!
I hope you’ll like it!
